ACJC Softball Girls Team

16th SRC Carnival U20 Champions

The journey for the fledging Girls Softball Team in ACJC has come a long way in a quick time to achieve many firsts for ACJC.  The team, ACJC’s very first Softball Girls team, was started in 2011, with a modest team of 7 JC2 students as founding members, struggling with the task of getting equipment, finding a coach, and recruiting new JC1 members. Even as a new team, we managed a decent performance at the A division championships by holding stronger teams to narrow score margins not expected of such a young team.
2012 proved a bigger jump,  after the experience of several local tournaments such as the NUS Open and Kallang Open, that allowed the team to improve and motivate the members to work together much better. The 2012 A division Championships proved an exciting time of defeats and wins to eventually allow the team to emerge as 3rd runners up, defeating defending champions VJC in the third and fourth playoff match running into extra time. It was a wonderful experience that drove the team to achieve even greater heights in 2013.
The SRC Age-group Softball Carnival marked the start of the 2013 journey for the team. Beating all the teams within the group, which included international teams from Malaysia, they eventually defeated the Malaysian team in the Finals to become Champions of the under 20 Division for the first time in ACJC history. To top it off, one of our players, Rissa Ho, was also named Player of the Tournament for the Division. This victory spurred the team to continue training all out for the A division National Schools Championships only four weeks later.

As each match progressed, the team held together and persevered despite many ups and downs in the games to defeat all the 6 JC teams in a Round Robin preliminary round. The team met HCI in the finals and emerged victorious to create yet another first in history for ACJC by winning the tournament.
The team has truly come a long way in such a short time, by the grace of God and through His many blessings in the form of supporters, resources and His continued guidance and protection of all the players. We thank Him for giving the team this wonderful experience. As the team grows from strength to strength, the College hopes that the players will use this experience to build themselves into stronger persons and pass this on to enrich others around them.
