A*Star Student Research Attachment

The A*STAR Student Research Attachment Programme (RAP) is jointly organised by A*STAR and MOE, to provide pre-university students with an opportunity to be immersed in the research project to gain insights into a specific area of science beyond the school curriculum at the A*STAR Research Institutes.  In 2016, eight students from ACJC who participated in the Young Researchers Attachment Programme (YRAP) and A*STAR-MOE Local Student Attachment Programme (LSAP) successfully completed their research attachments in December. In addition, 2 students have been shortlisted to present in the final judging of the Singapore Science Engineering Fair 2017.

“The short but extremely fulfilling five weeks spent in the A*STAR research institute was undoubtedly one of the greatest memories I will have of my JC1 experience. I worked with the most patient, caring and encouraging mentors who helped me along my research project and assisting me in planning experimental procedures better and explained all of the really complicated science theories behind the work. This experience has indeed opened my eyes to the innovative world of research right here in our little red dot and has unquestionably sparked a greater interest in me to embark on research as a career prospect in the future. Throughout the attachment, I have not only learnt a lot outside of my JC syllabus but also forged long lasting and very close friendships with students from a plethora of other schools whom I shared our short yet enjoyable lunch breaks with. The attachment has also honed my experimentation skills as well as real life application of scientific methodology that is encapsulated in the lecture notes back in our classrooms. I am extremely honoured to have been presented with this exclusive opportunity! “ Varen Tan  2SC1
