ACSian Theatre & the Chinese Cultural Society SYF Showcase 2016
On the 18 April 2016, ACJC’s ACSian Theatre and Chinese Cultural Society showcased their SYF performances, The Adventures of Odysseus and My Dear Child 亲爱的小孩, to friends and family at ACJCs Faith Centre for the Performing Arts.
The Adventures of Odysseus by ACSian Theatre is a physical theatre performance that follows Odysseus and his son, Telemachus, through travel home after the long Trojan War. This was adapted from the Greek Epic, The Odyssey by Homer. Gods, Goddesses, heroes and mortals graced the stage in a battle as Odysseus and Telemachus race home to their loved one, who was in the hands of disdainful suitors. The Greek Epic was given a new lease of life by melding a combination of sharp and symbolic choreography, music and spoken text. The physically-demanding performance enchanted the audience with its intensity and emotion, creating an unforgettable performance that will linger long in the audience’s minds.
In contrast, My Dear Child 亲爱的小孩 by Chinese Cultural Society is a short play that combines both humorous and touching moments, leaving the audience both laughing and crying by the end of the play. The play follows a Reality Television Show that aims to reunite parents with their lost children. It satires the phenomenon of creating a “false reality” on a Reality Television Show in order to boost ratings. The performance concludes with an ironic ending that baffles the audience and leaves them shocked at the reality of Television. Through the cleverly-written script and well-constructed characters, the ensemble created a poignant and unforgettable piece.
We would like to thank our supporters for coming down to encourage us on our SYF journey. Without their heartfelt encouragement, we would not have put on these excellent performances.
ACSian Theatre and Chinese Cultural Society thank everyone for being part of our journey.
