Science Achievements at ACJC

Energy Innovation Challenge

Three teams, led by Mr William Toh, represented ACJC in the inaugural Energy Innovation Challenge in July 2015. This Challenge was organised by the Science Centre Singapore and the Institution of Engineers, Singapore, for students to work with engineering and business mentors to design and invent products which use alternative sources of energy.

Of the 31 teams which competed in the Secondary and Junior College category, we are very proud of our 3 teams, who won the 1st, 3rd and Merit Awards. The teams received their awards at the National Engineers' Day 2015, from the Guest-of-Honour, Mr Heng Swee Keat, Minister for Education.

The champion team invented the 'Windbelt Farm', winning a $1000 cash prize and a trip to Australia to visit an energy vendor. The team comprised:

1. Lan Tianxiang (1SA3)

2. Nithyasri Manikandan (1SB6)

3. Cheng Qian (1SA3)\

The 3rd prize went to the team who invented the 'Solar Concentrator', winning a $700 cash prize. The team comprised:

1. Alexander Jandwin Tedjoprano (1SA1)

2. Delfina Paulin (1SA1)

3. Ignatius Daniel Widjojo (1SA1)

The Merit Award went to the team who invented the 'Sunlamp', winning a $300 cash prize. The team comprised:

1. Song Yutong (1SA3)

2. Ding Shiqian (1SB1)

3. Liu Mengru (1SB2)

ASTAR Science Awards

Five of our JC1 students were awarded the ASTAR Science Award (JC) 2015:

1. Felicia Thng Hui Min (1AD1)

2. Georgie Lee (1SA1)

3. Irwin Tay Khai Cheng (1SD2)

4. Keith Lim Sau Kiat (1SA4)

5. Stella Ferdinand (1SA5)


Two of our alumni were awarded the ASTAR Undergraduate Scholarship:

1. Shaun Sim (Class of 2008, SA1), currently at Cornell University working on a PhD in Food Science and Technology

2. Inguva Krishna Pavan (Class of 2012, SC4), currently at Imperial College studying Chemical Engineering
