ACS Thanks You

On 18th February this year, ACJC launched “ACS Thanks You” to celebrate Chinese New Year. Students from ACJC and other ACS schools collaborated to give out mandarin oranges to members of the public as a form of appreciation for their contributions towards improving the everyday lives of Singaporeans. This initiative is part of the “SG50 ACtS”, a collection of activities by the ACS family of schools that will be conducted throughout 2015 in honour of Singapore’s 50th birthday.

Here are some highlights of the day since it is near impossible to capture all the unique and happy experiences of every ACSian who participated in this meaningful event.

Mandarin oranges were given to nurses and doctors at different parts of Singapore General Hospital to express thanks for the compassion that they have shown to the patients. The SGH staff warmly reciprocated by giving tokens of appreciation to the principals and the students, which moved the hearts of the students and ACJC staff. Our Principal Ms Chong shared with the students how it was a privilege to show appreciation to our everyday heroes, and that we should continuously thank the people around us. Our Vice-Principal Mr Ang also reinforced that this initiative was meaningful as it allowed us to share the joy with the community.

Meanwhile at Toa Payoh HDB Hub, our Vice-Principal Mrs Choo presented mandarin oranges to the Deputy CEO, who expressed gratitude to the students and the school for embarking on this meaningful project. Students expressed their appreciation to the staff by giving out mandarin oranges to the security guards and cleaners who serve tirelessly everyday in the HDB Hub. Mrs Choo, lauded the spirit of giving back to society as a way of saying 'thank you'.

These are only two instances from the “ACS Thanks You” initiative- similar stories of goodwill and mutual compassion took place all across Singapore, in town centres, the CBD, and a wide variety of organisations. ACJC would like to extend a big ‘Thank You’ to the “ACS Thanks You” Organizing Committee, without whom this event would not have been possible!
