Arts Night 2013
20th February was indeed a day buzzing with much excitement as the Arts Council held Arts Night, an annual event that showcases the artistic talent of our students, as well as to promote ACJC as a center of excellence for the performing arts.
The theme this year was ‘Retro!’ and the night opened with the guest band, Cinereous, who began with an energetic cover of “The Great Escape” by Boys like Girls, all while illuminated by trippy light effects, setting the mood right for Arts Night.
The music was the main draw that night and every performer delivered an enthused act. We had a range of performances covering different genres, from self-compiled mash-ups to Swedish House Mafia. It only took the first buzz chord of “I Will Survive” to lift the crowd to a new level of frenzy which carried through to the end of the night. While there were the band performances such as The SBeetles who brought an impressive amount of gumption to songs such as “Crazy Little Thing Called Love”, the acoustic performances which delivered stripped-down, easy on the ears versions of songs, brought about an equal amount of emotion to songs such as “Terrified”.
Finally, to close off a night of spectacular performances, we saw the class of 2AA2 entertain us with an energetic cover of “Summer Nights” from Grease. Their enthusiasm struck a chord with the audience and it was of no surprise that they were voted best act of the night.
We would like to thank MRC for their patience and technical support, and everyone who has made the event a success. Stay tuned as Arts Council brings you Arts Week 2013, along with a slew of other events !
