ECONOMICS LEARNING TRIP TO HONG KONG – 26TH NOV TO 1ST DEC 2012

On the 26th November 2012, a group of 18 pupils, accompanied by Ms. Faith Mai and Mr. Kenn Chng embarked on a 6-day Economics Learning Journey to Hong Kong. The aim of the trip was to provide students with first-hand experience of economic problems and cures in the context of Hong Kong and Mainland China.

We visited many government institutions such as the Hong Kong Monetary Authority and Hong Kong Housing Authority Exhibition Centre where we learnt the different policies adopted by the government to combat macroeconomic problems. We also visited the Hong Kong City University and attended a lecture which discusses key economic issues in Hong Kong in recent years.

The team also visited a few firms. One of them is Hua Qiang Holdings Limited which is located in ShenZhen. This is a company whose main business is in animated films and theme parks.  The visit to Swire Coca Cola production line in Hong Kong was another eye opener. The team had the opportunity to learn about the firm’s history as well as to see the production process of soft drinks.
Through these industrial visits, we learnt the various strategies that firms adopt to maintain competitiveness in this highly competitive global economy.

The Hong Kong Trip was truly an unforgettable experience that everyone involved in the trip could attest to. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the teachers and college without whom the trip would not be possible.
